The Coal Office is part of a wider scheme of interpreting Saundersfoot's industrial and maritime heritage, as well as the current significance of its coastal location.

The Coal Office encompasses the landscape (natural and industrial), and the mining communities, together with the global significance of the coal industry in Pembrokeshire. We engaged with local heritage groups to carry out creative and content workshops, refined themes and established an interpretation strategy. With this visitor experience being a new destination, not having any association with others we also had to engage with archives, museums and collections throughout the country in order to both research content and gather correctly licensed assets.

This project constituted a pivotal undertaking in the town’s regeneration. It extended well beyond the preservation of architectural heritage; it encompassed the preservation of the historical narratives that form the foundation of the town and community.
